Magistrate Brima Peter Gogra of the Moyamba Judicial Magistrate Court on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, committed Junisa Brainard of Mosongo Village, Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba District, to the High Court for trial over the alleged murder of his nine-year-old biological son.
The matter came before the court following investigations conducted by the Sierra Leone Police.
According to the particulars of the offence presented by Detective Sergeant 9541 Ibrahim Bantowa Brainard of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), attached to the Moyamba Police Division, the accused was arrested on September 22, 2026, at Taiama Police Station in Kori Chiefdom.
The prosecution alleged that Detective Constable 14528 Senesie A. and other police personnel, together with the complainant, arrested Junisa Brainard in connection with the alleged murder of his nine-year-old son.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant 5801 John Friendy Coker represented the prosecution and presented the particulars of the case and evidence gathered during the police investigation.
During the preliminary proceedings, Detective Sergeant Ibrahim Bantowa Brainard tendered several items as exhibits in connection with the alleged offence.
The exhibits included a brown stainless-steel knife, a pink-coloured rope, and a green rubber bowl containing a red-coloured liquid suspected to be human blood.
The prosecution maintained that the exhibits formed part of the evidence collected during investigations into the alleged murder.
After considering the preliminary proceedings and the evidence presented, Magistrate Gogra committed the matter to the High Court for trial.
The Magistrate further ordered that the necessary committal proceedings and warrant be prepared and filed forthwith to facilitate the transfer of the case to the High Court.
The case will now proceed to the High Court, where the accused will face trial on the alleged murder charge. The allegations have not been proven in court, and the accused remains presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law.
