Sierra Leone’s national football team, Leone Stars, will face Equatorial Guinea on Monday, September 28, in their second match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in Yaoundé, Cameroon, as they seek to recover from their 3-2 defeat to Zimbabwe.
Ahead of the encounter, Leone Stars remain determined to bounce back from the disappointing opening-match result and secure a positive outcome against Equatorial Guinea.
In a social media post, Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Babadi Kamara acknowledged the disappointment among Sierra Leoneans following the defeat but said the result was not a reflection of the work of the technical team.
Kamara explained that injuries to three key players Juma Bah, Saidu Fofanah and Alhassan Koroma disrupted the team’s tactical plans. He added that he takes full responsibility for the outcome and urged supporters to remain hopeful.
The SLFA president said the players and technical team have already shifted their focus to the Equatorial Guinea encounter as they pursue the national objective of qualifying for the next AFCON tournament.
Head coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa remains committed to the team’s qualification campaign, while football voices have called for patience and continued support following the difficult start.
Former Leone Stars captain and legendary striker Kei Kamara has also expressed his support for the team, calling for unity and prayers for the speedy recovery of central defender Juma Bah.
Leone Stars will be looking to put the Zimbabwe defeat behind them and produce a strong performance against Equatorial Guinea in Yaoundé.
