Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 has refused bail to two men accused of allegedly fraudulently converting US$30,000 entrusted to one of them for delivery to another person.
The accused, 39-year-old driver Minkailu Sesay and 25-year-old house help Philip Fellie, have been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
The two are facing two counts of Fraudulent Conversion, contrary to Section 20(1)(iv)(b) of the Larceny Act 1916, and Accessory Before the Fact, contrary to law.
According to the particulars of the offence, on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Siaka Stevens Street in the Western Area of Freetown, Sesay allegedly fraudulently converted to his own use or benefit the sum of US$30,000, equivalent to Le720, 000, which had been entrusted to him by Marie Sesay to deliver to Kate Majella Bridget Karemo Garnett.
The second count alleged that, on the same date and at the same place, Fellie counselled, procured and commanded Sesay to commit the alleged offence of fraudulent conversion involving the US$30,000.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused persons, no plea was taken because the matter is before the court as a committal proceeding.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric A. Deen, informed the court that copies of the case and inquiry files had been served on both accused persons.
Both accused acknowledged receipt of the documents and were not legally represented.
Following the proceedings, Magistrate Jah refused bail and ordered both accused persons to remain in custody at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
The matter has been adjourned to September 28, 2026, for further proceedings.
