A Chinese digital platform is creating new opportunities for Africans to showcase their cultural heritage, creativity, and entrepreneurial potential to a global audience.

Rednote, a fast-growing Chinese social media platform, is emerging as a digital space where users can share cultural experiences, lifestyle content, tourism, business ideas, and personal stories while connecting with communities around the world.

Unlike WeChat, Rednote was developed as a content-driven platform focused on lifestyle, creativity, and social interaction. Chang Xinbo, General Manager of the Department of Public Policy at Rednote, said the platform has attracted a large community of users, particularly among young people in China.

Speaking during the China-Africa Audiovisual Cultural Exchange Week held in Beijing on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, Chang explained that Rednote aims to bring people together through digital content, entertainment, entrepreneurship, and cultural exchange.

He said the platform continues to evolve with new features and provides opportunities for users from different parts of the world to share their experiences and connect with wider audiences.

The platform is also gaining attention among African content creators who are using it to promote the continent’s cultural diversity and tourism potential.

Ugandan content creator Timothy Kiwalabya is among the first African users to utilize Rednote to showcase Africa’s cultural richness, including Uganda’s tourism attractions such as the River Nile. His content has helped introduce aspects of African culture and destinations to Chinese and international audiences.

Another African Rednote content creator and entrepreneur, Cabrel Domche, praised the platform for creating opportunities for Africans to tell their own stories and engage with global audiences.

Domche encouraged more Africans to use digital platforms like Rednote to change outdated perceptions about the continent and promote African creativity through content such as Afrobeats, African cuisine, fashion, tourism, and cultural traditions.

“Africans should learn to localize and promote our products by using platforms like Rednote,” Domche said.

He noted that digital platforms provide an opportunity for African entrepreneurs, artists, and creators to build new markets while strengthening cultural connections with people around the world.

As part of growing China-Africa cooperation, Chang encouraged more Africans to explore Rednote as a tool for cultural promotion, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges.

He said digital collaboration can further strengthen the relationship between China and Africa, which has developed over more than five decades of diplomatic and economic cooperation.

With the rapid growth of digital technology, platforms such as Rednote are providing new avenues for Africa to share its stories, promote its values, and participate more actively in the global digital economy.
