The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) commenced nationwide training on a new digital platform that officials say will transform pension administration in Sierra Leone, as the institution prepares for a leadership transition.

The Pension Administration System (PAS) is currently being rolled out to staff at NASSIT Headquarters and all regional offices across the country. The training, conducted by senior management and the PAS technical team, forms part of the Trust’s broader digital transformation agenda aimed at improving operational efficiency, enhancing service delivery and increasing customer satisfaction.

The introduction of PAS comes at a significant moment for NASSIT, with the appointment of Mohamed Orman Bangura as the new Deputy Director General in charge of Administration and Finance. During the training sessions, Mr Bangura paid tribute to outgoing Director General Mohamed Fuaad Daboh for his years of dedicated service and contribution to the development of the institution.

“The outgoing Director General leaves behind a legacy of reforms and stability. The systems he championed will continue to serve the Scheme for many years to come,” Mr Bangura said.

He credited Mr Daboh’s leadership with repositioning NASSIT as a respected institution in Sierra Leone and across the sub-region. He noted that under Mr Daboh’s stewardship, the Trust recorded improvements in internal processes, timely payment of benefits to pensioners and increased compliance among employers and employees.

The Pension Administration System was highlighted as one of the major achievements of outgoing administration.

Addressing staff at NASSIT Headquarters, Mr Daboh provided an overview of the new system and explained its strategic importance to the future operations of the Trust.

According to him, PAS covers the full range of NASSIT activities, including member registration, contribution payments, benefit processing and reporting.

“The PAS is more than just software; it represents the future of how we serve our members,” Mr Daboh said. “It is designed to streamline processes, minimize delays and improve the experience of both staff and members, ultimately benefiting the Trust and the country.”

Mr Daboh encouraged staff to embrace and take ownership of the new system as he prepares for retirement. He emphasized that the success of digital transformation would depend on the commitment and dedication of NASSIT employees.

“We are investing in this system and, most importantly, in you. Your commitment will determine how successful this change will be,” he told staff.

He added that diligent service at NASSIT contributes not only to the growth of the institution but also to the future social security of employees themselves.

“As I proceed on retirement, I am confident that this new system will play a key role in transforming our way of doing business. We owe this to ourselves and our country,” he stated.

In his remarks, Deputy Director General Bangura urged staff to remain committed throughout the training and in their daily responsibilities. He described working at NASSIT as an opportunity to contribute to the country’s social security system while also securing the future of workers.

“Serving NASSIT is not just serving one’s country but serving oneself. Every contribution you make today is a contribution to your own future social security,” he said.

Mr Bangura also described Mr Daboh as an example of the value of the Scheme, noting his transition from an active employee who served the nation to a retired statesman who will now benefit from the system he helped strengthen.

Concluding his remarks, Mr Bangura pledged to uphold integrity, commitment and professionalism in carrying out his responsibilities.

“I assure management, staff and members of the Scheme of my total commitment to the call for service, in the interest of the Trust and the people of Sierra Leone,” he said.

With the nationwide deployment of PAS underway, NASSIT says its focus will be on improving data management, reducing processing times, strengthening service delivery and rebuilding public confidence in Sierra Leone’s social security system.
