Ivory Coast’s impressive run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup came to a heartbreaking end after suffering defeat to Norway in the Round of 32, as the Scandinavian nation produced a composed performance to book their place in the last 16.

The Elephants entered the knockout clash hoping to continue their remarkable campaign after emerging from a competitive group, but Norway proved clinical when it mattered most, capitalizing on their chances to edge a fiercely contested encounter.

Norway took the lead through their talisman Erling Haaland, whose clinical finish rewarded a bright start from the Europeans. Ivory Coast responded with determination, creating several opportunities in search of an equalizer, but Norway’s disciplined defence and goalkeeper frustrated every attempt by the African side to get back into the match.

Despite pushing numbers forward in the closing stages, Ivory Coast were unable to find the breakthrough as Norway defended resolutely to secure victory and end the West Africans’ World Cup journey.

The defeat marks a disappointing end for Ivory Coast, who had won many admirers during the group stage with their energetic displays and fighting spirit. Although they fall short of the Round of 16, the Elephants leave the tournament having demonstrated the growing quality and competitiveness of African football on the world stage.

For Norway, the victory keeps alive their hopes of a deep World Cup run, with Haaland once again proving the difference in a high-pressure knockout fixture. They now advance to Round of 16, where an even tougher challenge awaits as the race for football’s biggest prize intensifies.
