A student, Sahid Kargbo, has been granted bail by Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 after appearing before the court on three charges relating to the alleged use of a forged West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result.

The defendant is charged with conspiracy to defraud, forgery, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Forgery Act, 1913, and uttering a forged document, contrary to Sections 6(1) and 6(2) of the Forgery Act, 1913.

According to the prosecution, on 12 May 2026 at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, Connaught Campus, in Freetown, the defendant allegedly conspired with other persons unknown to defraud the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences of the University of Sierra Leone.

The prosecution further alleges that, on the same date and at the same location, Kargbo forged a West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result bearing candidate number 7021003204, falsely purporting it to have been prepared and issued to him by WAEC.

The third count alleges that the defendant knowingly uttered the same allegedly forged WAEC result with the intent to defraud.

When the charges were read and explained to the defendant, no plea was taken because the matter is before the court for committal proceedings.

The prosecutor, DPC 17649 Brima Kargbo, informed the court that the defendant had been served copies of the case file and the inquiry file.

After considering the matter, Magistrate Jah granted the defendant bail in the sum of NLe500,000, with two sureties in like amount.

The court ordered that both sureties must be Sierra Leonean citizens residing in Freetown. At least one surety must be gainfully employed or provide proof of operating a legitimate business with a reputable organization. Both sureties must also produce valid national identity cards. The bail conditions are subject to the approval of the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The matter was adjourned to 6 July 2026 for further proceedings.
