The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art Blood Bank and Dental Clinic at the Police Hospital in Kingtom, marking a significant milestone in the Force’s efforts to improve healthcare services for police personnel and their families in Kingtom on 18 June 2026.
The unveiling ceremony attracted senior police officials, government representatives, healthcare professionals, members of civil society, and media practitioners, highlighting the importance of the project in strengthening emergency medical response and specialized healthcare delivery within the Police Force.
The newly established facilities form part of the Sierra Leone Police’s ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive medical services, ensuring reliable blood supply management, and improving access to quality oral healthcare for officers and their dependants.
Among those in attendance were Regional Police Commander Freetown West, AIG Sylvester M.N. Koroma; Director of Operations, AIG John Martin Senesie; ACP Allieu Turay; representatives of the Dental Association; officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs; and other distinguished guests.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sahr Yomba Senesi described the inauguration as a historic achievement for the Sierra Leone Police.
He noted that the establishment of the Blood Bank and Dental Clinic reflects the leadership’s commitment to improving healthcare access and promoting the welfare of police personnel.
DIG Senesi further emphasized the importance of oral health, stating that good dental care plays a critical role in maintaining the overall wellbeing, productivity, and operational readiness of officers.
Representing the Minister of Internal Affairs, Permanent Secretary Edwards Ngaujah commended the police leadership for prioritizing health and welfare initiatives. He noted that the development aligns with the Ministry’s strategic objective of transforming the Sierra Leone Police into a professional, efficient, and service-oriented institution.
Speaking at the ceremony, Director of Medical Services, AIG Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Jalloh, explained that the project was conceived several years ago as part of broader efforts to modernize and expand healthcare services at the Police Hospital.
He highlighted the remarkable transformation of the facility from a modest medical inspection room into a fully equipped healthcare institution with specialized units, including the newly commissioned Blood Bank and Dental Clinic.
The Medical Superintendent of the Police Hospital, ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, praised the Inspector General of Police and the Police leadership for their unwavering support in bringing the project to fruition.
He also expressed appreciation to Dr. Liu of Ping Kang Hospital and other dental specialists for training police nurses in dental procedures, thereby strengthening the hospital’s capacity to deliver quality oral healthcare services.
Dr. Konteh underscored the importance of the Blood Bank, noting that it will play a vital role in responding to medical emergencies and ensuring the availability of lifesaving blood supplies when needed.
Dental surgeon and lecturer, Dr. George Julian Elba, also commended the Sierra Leone Police leadership for prioritizing dental healthcare and investing in the training of police personnel as dental nurses.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Police Force’s dental health programmes and contributing to the continuous improvement of healthcare services within the institution.
The ceremony concluded with the symbolic cutting of the ribbon, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, and an inspection tour of the new facilities led by DIG Senesi and other senior police officers.
The commissioning of the Blood Bank and Dental Clinic represents a major step forward in the Sierra Leone Police’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery, improve staff welfare, and create a healthier and more supportive working environment for its personnel and their families.
This achievement further demonstrates the Force’s commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of its officers while building a modern, responsive, and people-centered institution.
