Twenty-three-year-old Abubakar Bangura has been remanded pending sentencing after appearing before Hon. Justice Mustapha Mohamed Bawoh at High Court No. 2 in Freetown on charges of larceny.

The convict is facing two counts of larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act, 1961.

According to the particulars of offence, on 19th February 2025, at Freetown Park, Waterloo, the convict broke into and entered the Arafat Investment Store and stole cash in the sum of Forty Thousand Leones (NLe 40,000), property belonging to Abu Bakarr Jalloh.

During the proceedings, defence counsel C. Taylor Young was present in court, while the State Prosecutor was absent.

In his plea in mitigation, defence counsel informed the court that the convict had already pleaded guilty to the offence. He appealed for leniency on behalf of the accused, noting that no previous criminal record had been presented against him. Counsel therefore urged the court to consider sentencing the convict to the period already spent in custody.

After hearing the mitigation plea, Hon. Justice Bawoh adjourned the matter to 9th June 2026 for judgment and sentencing.
