Freetown City FC came from behind to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory over Mighty Blackpool in their Leone Rock Premier League clash at the SLFA Academy on June 1st, 2026.

Mighty Blackpool got off to the perfect start and wasted little time in making their intentions clear. Just six minutes into the contest, Ibrahim Kamara drove forward with purpose before threading a well-timed pass into the path of Idrissa Swarray, who made no mistake in firing home to give the hosts an early advantage.

The goal sparked Freetown City FC into life, and the visitors gradually grew into the game. They enjoyed more possessions and continued to ask questions of the Mighty Blackpool defence. Their persistence was eventually rewarded when they won a penalty after sustaining pressure inside the box. Captain Aruna Kamara stepped up and coolly converted from the spot to restore parity before the break.

With the scores level at halftime, the second half developed into a fiercely contested encounter. Mighty Blackpool searched for a way back in front, while Freetown City FC showed greater urgency as they chased a crucial victory in their fight against relegation.

As the game appeared to be heading for a draw, Freetown City FC found the decisive moment four minutes from time. Alhassan Sillah produced an excellent pass to release Alfred Mbayo, who kept his composure before smashing home the winning goal in the 86th minute, sparking celebrations among the travelling supporters.

The result gives Freetown City FC a valuable three points and renewed hope in their battle to avoid the drop. Despite winning, they remain 18th in the standings on 27 points. Mighty Blackpool, meanwhile, stay 11th on 36 points after suffering a disappointing defeat on home soil.
