Daniel Tommy and Emmanuel Caffie have been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown by Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 on two counts of fraudulent conversion and larceny.

The charges include fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20(1)(iv)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916, and larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the same Act.

According to the particulars of offence, on Monday, 4 May 2026, at New England Ville in the Western Area of Freetown, the accused allegedly fraudulently converted to their own use certain properties three vehicle tyres and one battery valued at Le 8,600, which were entrusted to them by Salamatu Janneh for safekeeping.

Count two stated that on the same date and location, the second defendant allegedly stole one vehicle tyre valued at Le 2,200 from vehicle registration number AUI 579, property of Salamatu Janneh, while it was in the custody of Daniel Tommy.

When the charges were read and explained to both defendants, no plea was taken for the first defendant as the matter is at the committal stage of proceedings. The second defendant, Emmanuel Caffie, however, pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Sergeant 3379 Theresa Ballay served the defendants with copies of their witness statements.

Defense counsel, A.B. Sesay Esq., applied for bail on behalf of both defendants, stating that they are Sierra Leonean residents within the jurisdiction, with reliable sureties willing to enter recognizance, and that they would not interfere with prosecution witnesses. The application was made pursuant to Section 76(1) of the Criminal Procedure Act 2024.

However, Magistrate Fornah refused bail due to the seriousness of the offences and ordered that both defendants be remanded in custody.

The matter was adjourned to 15 May 2026 for further hearing.
