More than 2,000 pupils sitting this year’s National Primary School Examination (NPSE) across five chiefdoms in Moyamba District have benefited from an education support initiative led by Umu Pyne.

The initiative, which included the provision of cooked meals and educational materials, was aimed at improving the welfare and performance of candidates during the national examinations. Beneficiaries were drawn from several examination centres across the district, including the Moyamba Junction Centre, where over 500 pupils sat the exams.

Parents, teachers, and community stakeholders described the intervention as timely and impactful, particularly amid the current economic challenges facing many households.

Many noted that hunger, inadequate learning materials, and transportation difficulties continue to affect the academic performance and concentration of pupils during public examinations.

Hon. Umu Pyne, who serves as Deputy Chairperson of Parliament’s Basic Education Committee, was seen engaging with pupils and school authorities at various examination centres while encouraging candidates to remain focused and confident.

Speaking during the visits, the lawmaker emphasized that education remains central to national growth and community transformation.

“Supporting children through education is one of the best investments any society can make,” she stated. “These pupils represent the future leadership and development of Sierra Leone.”

She called on development partners, community leaders, and education stakeholders to continue supporting children both materially and morally in order to strengthen academic performance across the country.

The MP also commended teachers and school administrators for their continued dedication to improving educational standards despite existing challenges.

Hon. Pyne further highlighted the increasing participation and academic success of girls in national examinations, describing it as a positive sign for gender inclusion and empowerment in education.

She encouraged candidates to remain calm throughout the examination process and praised parents and guardians for the sacrifices they continue to make for their children’s education.

The lawmaker also commended the government’s Free Quality School Education Programme, noting that continued community support remains essential in creating a conducive learning environment for pupils.

Observers say the intervention demonstrates how public officials can complement government efforts through community-based initiatives that directly impact the lives of citizens.

For many NPSE candidates in Moyamba, the support provided was not only practical assistance during the examinations but also a strong reminder that their education and future remain a national priority.
