Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma Trophy Concludes in Grand Style

The 4th edition of the Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma Trophy was successfully concluded on Saturday, 11th April 2026, at the Kenema City Stadium. The grand finale featured an exciting encounter between defending champions Chief Kallon FC and Chief Ngombulango FC.

At the end of an entertaining match, Chief Ngombulango FC emerged victorious with a 1–0 win, thanks to a brilliant free-kick from one of their standout players in the tournament.

This year’s tournament, themed “Say No to Drug Abuse,” attracted significant attention from stakeholders within Kenema District and beyond. Among the dignitaries present were the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Fayia Sellu, and his wife; the Chief of Defence Staff, Mr. Bangura; the NASSIT Director General, Mr. Fuad Daboh; His Worship the Mayor of Kenema, Thomas Baio; members of the Nyuma family; House of Pain; and many other distinguished guests.

Various stakeholders delivered statements during the occasion, praising the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, and his wife for championing the fight against drug abuse through football. They also commended his continued commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence among stakeholders within Kenema District.

The match ended 1–0 in favour of Chief Ngombulango FC. Attractive prizes were awarded to outstanding players in recognition of their performances and to encourage their development in football.

Award Categories and Winners include: Player of the Tournament: Mark Quee (Chief Kallon FC) – NLe 7,000.

Highest Goal Scorer: Saccoh Keita (Chief Kallon FC) – NLe 5,000 + $200

Best Goalkeeper: Musa Morlu (Chief Ngombulango FC) – NLe 5,000

Best Coach Musa Fofanah (Chief Ngombulango FC) – NLe 5,000

Best Behaved Team: Lt. Col. Hindolo Turay FC – NLe 5,000

Best Referee: Mr. Keifala Koroma – NLe 3,000

The Steering Committee was highly commended for ensuring the successful and colourful organization of the tournament’s climax.

In his statement, the sponsor emphasized the importance of unity among Kenema indigenes in the fight against drug abuse and indiscipline among youth. He also expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who graced the occasion, including the Sierra Leone Police Eastern Region, the eight participating teams, supporters, the Steering Committee, the KDFA, and referees for their professionalism.
