The Sierra Leone Cricket Association(SLCA) has on Saturday 26th June 2021 elected new members to stairs the affairs of Cricket in the Country for the next five year’s, the elections was held at the Sierra Leone Police Wives Association Multi-Purpose Hall in Kingtom Police Barracks.
A total of 91 memberships took part in the elective Congress to votes for those they think can run the association for better development.
Francis Trevor Samura was voted as the Chairman of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association after securing (84) votes, while his opponent Emmanuel Kamara was only able to get (7) out 91.
According to the Chairman elect Francis Trevor Samura he has been in to the management of Cricket since 2007 and all the projects and Policy where under take during my time in the out-going administration, so base on my performance that convince the membership to overwhelming vote me as their Chairman of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association.
He commended the out-going leadership of Beresford Bourne’s Coker who had laid a solid foundation for Cricket to develop in the Country, as according to him he learnt a lot from him, more so key are the financial discipline, Management and Administration he is someone who had Love for Cricket.
He furthered that his first task is to manage the expectations of those who supported his campaign bid and those who voted him to work on projects, management structure and get a professional to achieve set goals.
The Vice Chairman position was not contested for as Martin E. Michael the Managing Director of Mercury international won that position.
Emmanuel Pessima the newly elect Director of Development was overwhelming voted for with 76 votes while his opponent was only able to muster 15 votes. While talking to A-Z newspaper he said it’s all about team work and dedication to take the Cricket to Schools and tap in new talents, because that has been his Major campaign to see that Cricket is being developed in the country.
Gabriel Anthony was voted as the technical director and he sure 88 votes while his opponent was only able to get 3 votes
Outline his key area he said the focus of attention will be with the coaches and athletes to help developed with standard training skills for both national and international assignment.
Kelifa Stevens the director of participation at the National Sports Authority said the entire process of the elections was free and fair and to a large extent it was peaceful and further called on other Associations to emulate the Cricket Association.
