The Medial Superintendent of Koidu Government Hospital Dr. Daniel Lavalie has encouraged the people of Kono District to be vaccinated in order to curb Covid-19 third wave in the district and the country as a whole. Making a statement, the Dicoverc Coordinator Kono District Rev. Ambassador Samuel Sam disclosed that the district had a positive case of the Covid-19 last week but owing to the lack of attention and concern in the fight against the Covid-19 virus, the person with the positive case escaped from the district thereby creating apprehension that the said person might have contacted and infected people.

The medical superintendent made the appeal when addressing a stakeholders meeting held at the DICOVERC Command Centre, Riber Hotel, Suku Tamba Street in Koidu city. He maintained that the COvid-19 third wave is very aggressive as the longer it stays the more critical it becomes to be curbed.

According to him, the following measures will in no doubt break the transmission of the virus: Hand washing with alcohol based sanitizer, use of face mask among many other noting that until ninety percent (90%) of the world population gets vaccinated before the use of the face mask will be minimised. Dr. Lavalie reiterated the importance of the Covid-19 vaccine noting that since they started vaccinating people, he has not heard any negative feedback about it and therefore encouraged all to be vaccinated in order to curb the corona virus pandemic. In a bid to making the district safe, he pointed out that there is an ongoing robust surveillance to break the transmission of the reported positive case in the district. The Dicoverc boss told all present that it is now a mandate from government that before people accessing any government facilities they have to produce the covid-19 vaccination card.

Rev. Ambassador Samuel Sam underscored the vaccination exercise if we are to curb the Covid 19 third wave adding that for Kono District the vaccination is in progress for free of charge at the Njaiama Nimikoro UMC hospital and the Koidu Government Hospital. “For the available Ebola, Polio and Covid-19 vaccines people are only expected to give vital information for the exercise Samuel Sam concluded. Statements were also made by the different stakeholders present. o
