Former Sierra Leone and England international Steven Caulker has officially embarked on a new chapter in his football career, confirming his appointment as first-team assistant coach at Turkish Süper Lig side Konyaspor.
The former Leone Stars Captain , takes up the role after a period of reflection following his departure from Iceland, where he previously combined playing and coaching responsibilities.
The 34- year-old defender, who spent five years playing in Türkiye, revealed in an interview with Sky Sports that the opportunity came unexpectedly through a friend. Despite the surprise nature of the offer, Caulker said he is excited and fully ready to embrace the challenge.
“It was quite random,” he admitted, “but I’m really looking forward to getting started.”
Caulker acknowledged that the transition from player to assistant manager will require serious dedication and preparation, especially with Konyaspor set to face Turkish giants Galatasaray in their upcoming fixture.
The former Leone Stars skipper’s move marks an important milestone in his career, signaling his shift from leadership on the pitch to leadership from the technical bench.
