The Ministry of Health (MoH) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) in Rwanda to provide advanced hospital leadership training for more than 100 medical practitioners in Sierra Leone.
The five-year programme, which is globally recognized, is aimed at strengthening hospital leadership, improving governance, and enhancing health systems management and surgical services nationwide. Beneficiaries will undergo structured training focused on leadership, health financing, and effective service delivery within hospital settings.
The MOU was signed following a high-level visit to Rwanda by a delegation from the Ministry of Health, led by the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Services, Dr. Mustapha Kabba.
Signing on behalf of the Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, Dr. Kabba said the agreement will enhance the competence of healthcare workers through structured skills transfer, shared learning, mentorship, and practical exposure to effective hospital governance and management models.
He noted that the initiative aligns with Sierra Leone’s ongoing health sector reforms and is expected to contribute significantly to improved healthcare delivery outcomes across the country.
The partnership, he added, reflects the government’s strong commitment to building a resilient and sustainable health system by investing in the continuous professional development of its healthcare workforce.
