Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) is set to sign semi-professional contracts with thirty-six players from two tiers, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s cricket talent pipeline.
The ten-month contract, beginning 1 February 2026, will benefit eighteen male players from the top level and eighteen female players from both the top and U-19 levels under a player-centered development scheme.
The contracts are designed to encourage players to engage in consistent training, aiming to elevate both national performance and international competitiveness.
The thirty-six beneficiaries will be categorized based on personal merit, with those in Category A earning automatic places in top-level teams.
CSL Board Chairman Francis Trevor Samura emphasized that contracted players are expected to engage with schools to identify emerging talent. He also highlighted the School Support Scheme for student-players and stressed that all contract holders must uphold discipline, avoid harmful substances, and protect the image of the game.
Since the introduction of the player contract scheme in 2023, this is the first time women are included, marking a progressive step in Sierra Leone cricket.
