Forty-four-year-old Military Officer, Corporal Joseph Lamin Stevens (RSLAF 18181456), appeared before Principal Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 on Tuesday, 6th January 2026, charged with allegedly killing his colleague, Military Officer Moses Brima Kabba, by shooting him with a firearm.
Stevens was arraigned on one count of murder, contrary to Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, as repealed and replaced by Section 1(a) of the schedule of the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2021 (Act No. 6 of 2022).
According to the indictment, Stevens allegedly murdered Moses Brima Kabba on Wednesday, 26th November 2025, at the Presidential Lodge, Freetown International Airport, Lungi, located in the Port Loko Judicial District of Northern Province, Sierra Leone.
After the charge was read and explained, no plea was taken, as the offence is considered a serious one.
The prosecutor, ASP Ibrahim Mansaray, served Stevens with the necessary documents to allow him to prepare his defense. ASP Mansaray also requested an adjournment, citing the absence of witnesses in court. The request was granted.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Jah remanded Stevens to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown until 13th January 2026 for the next hearing.
