An electrician, Gbassay Turay, has been committed to the High Court for trial following allegations of burglary and larceny involving Eagles Academy School in Lumley, Freetown.
Turay made another appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2, where he was charged with burglary and larceny, contrary to Sections 25(1) and 13(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, on diverse dates between 1 October and 15 November 2025, at Eagles Academy, 44 Babadorie, Lumley, in the Western Area of Freetown, the accused allegedly broke and entered the school building with intent to steal. The prosecution alleged that he stole two 32-inch smart television sets, four rolls of 2.5mm electrical cables, and other assorted items, all valued at Le 59,000, property belonging to Eagles Academy School.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken.
The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Isatu Baba Musa, led her witness, after which the prosecution file was withdrawn for ruling.
In delivering his ruling, Magistrate Fornah stated that he had carefully considered the charges, the particulars of offence, and the statements adduced by the prosecution. He ruled that there was sufficient evidence linking the accused to the alleged offence, warranting that the matter be committed to the High Court for trial.
The case was accordingly committed to the High Court for further proceedings.
