As a potential third (3rd) wave hits the country, Bonthe District has recorded its first case after 66 days without a case. The district last had a case on April 7th, 2021.
On June 13th, the district recorded 3 cases that were suspected cases quarantined and tested. The cases comprise two 32 years old males and one 41 years old female who are residents of Moriba town in the Imperi Chiefdom.
Presently, there are eight (8) people in quarantine including a twenty-four months old male child, one adult female, and six adult males, and two of the six males are in institutional quarantine while six of the eight quarantined persons are in self-quarantine.
Yesterday, fifteen (15) samples were collected and submitted to the lab. Among the fifteen (15) samples collected, eight were from quarantine and seven from suspected cases.
As we ramp up active case search within the communities and health facilities, our surveillance team investigated and collected samples from fifteen individuals yesterday. About these fifteen samples, seven were collected from suspected cases and eight from quarantine homes. As the result of these samples becomes available tomorrow, the team is bracing up for a few more additional cases until our surveillance team zero in on the source of the current infection and gets hold of all relevant contacts.
Our social mobilization, public information, risk communication, and operations team are at speed in communities urging them to step up the use of face masks, hand washing, social distancing, and turn in for the available vaccines. There is also an intensive radio sensitization ongoing involving a simulcast of all four radio stations in the district.
Also, an inter-pillar community engagement of stakeholders and PHU’s across the district will commence next week to reenergize everyone to stay engaged and inform them about the third wave and its complexity.
