On Wednesday, 26 November 2025, at the Regent Community Recreational Centre, the Rt. Hon. Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas took centre stage at Modern Elementary School’s Annual Inter-House Athletics Meeting, serving as the distinguished guest who officially unveiled the school’s 30-year anniversary celebration.
In a brief but spirited address, Speaker Thomas commended the institution for its enduring commitment to nurturing young talent both on the track and in the classroom. “Today we honour three decades of excellence, resilience, and the bright futures being built on these very grounds,” he said as he drew back the ceremonial veil marking the milestone.
The event featured vibrant house competitions, a colourful parade of students, and a strong sense of community, all of which highlighted Modern Elementary’s role as a cornerstone of local development. In her welcoming remarks, Mrs. Helen C. Kellie thanked the Speaker for gracing the occasion and emphasised that high educational standards are strengthened by quality sporting activities hence the school’s launch of the Modern Elementary School Sports Arena Project.
Engineer Andrew Keili, who officially launched the anniversary celebrations, reflected on the school’s early challenges and noted that the institution is now better positioned to provide quality education across the country. He extended his best wishes to all and declared the 30-year celebration officially open.
Speaker Thomas’s presence added prestige to the occasion and reaffirmed Parliament’s support for educational and sporting initiatives in Sierra Leone. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks to teachers, parents, and the wider community for their continued contributions as the school looks forward to its next chapter.
