In a significant move to strengthen the long-standing relationship between Sierra Leone and the European Union (EU), the EU Delegation to Sierra Leone, in partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone, has officially launched the third edition of the EU4YOU Bus Tour. This nationwide campaign aims to showcase the enduring partnership between Team Europe and Sierra Leone.

The launch ceremony, held at Tower Hill in Freetown, was co-led by EU Ambassador Jacek Jankowski and the Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rev. Dr. Jonathan Titus-Williams, alongside senior government officials and representatives from Germany and Ireland.

The two-week nationwide tour, according to a release from the EU, will take place in two phases: the first leg runs from September 29 to October 3, 2025, covering Kambia, Tonkolili, Kono, and Kenema, while the second leg is scheduled for December 1-5, 2025.

During the official launch, Mrs. Yeama Thompson-Oguamah, Executive Director for the Initiatives for Media Development (IMdev), highlighted that the initiative would spotlight EU-supported projects across the regions, focusing on development, connectivity, and opportunities for Sierra Leoneans.

She emphasized that the project is crucial for the growth and steady progress of Sierra Leone, adding that the 2025 EU Bus Tour would be unique and impactful.

“I am proud to have worked with the EU as the project coordinator for the Bus Tour in past years. The experience has been incredibly rewarding,” she said. “The EU Bus Tour has been a huge blessing for Sierra Leone and its people, offering the media a unique opportunity to engage directly with local communities and capture moments of progress.”

“This is more than just a bus tour it is a testament to our shared commitment to Sierra Leone’s future,” said EU Ambassador Jacek Jankowski, stressing that the EU, through Team Europe, would continue investing in the lives of people and the planet.

In his keynote address, Rev. Dr. Titus-Williams reaffirmed President Julius Maada Bio’s appreciation for Sierra Leone’s strong ties with the EU. He emphasized that the initiative was “a journey of engagement bringing development closer to the people, raising awareness, and showcasing EU-supported projects that continue to make a real difference in communities across the country.”

The Global Gateway, the EU’s flagship investment strategy, underpins the tour by promoting sustainable infrastructure in transport, energy, and digital sectors, while also supporting education. Key projects to be highlighted during the tour include Infrastructure Development: Construction and rehabilitation of roads and bridges to improve connectivity and expand access to clean energy. Sustainable Agriculture: Support for the government’s “Feed Salone” program, with a focus on empowering women farmers and strengthening food systems. Youth Empowerment: Provision of vocational training and skills development opportunities to prepare young Sierra Leoneans for employment and entrepreneurship.

Organizers state that the EU4YOU Bus Tour 2025 is designed to bring Europe closer to Sierra Leoneans by directly engaging with communities and reinforcing a shared vision for a green, inclusive, and prosperous future.
