Resident Magistrate Kabine Kamara has sentenced James Kanu to six months’ imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone, following his guilty plea during his second court appearance.
According to the particulars of the offence, on Friday, 22nd August 2025, at Masuba Village, Gbanti Chiefdom, in the Bombali Judicial District of Northern Sierra Leone, the accused, James Kanu, stole a blue-black Infinix mobile phone, the property of Fatmata Tarawally.
Following the theft, the complainant promptly reported the matter to the police. After investigations, Kanu was charged to court on one count of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
During proceedings at the Makeni Magistrate Court, the accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to either six months’ imprisonment or to pay a fine of Five Thousand Leones (Le 5,000).
The convict will serve his sentence at the Makeni Correctional Centre if he fails to pay the fine.
The case was prosecuted by Sergeant 6226 Sesay, while A.S. Sumalia of the Sierra Leone Legal Aid Board represented the convict as defence counsel.
