In a historic moment of accountability and transparent leadership, former SLPP Regional Chairman for the South, Dr. Alhaji Kanja Sesay, and former SLPP Bo District Chairman, Mohamed E.K. Alie, officially handed over the construction documents for the party’s regional office to the current SLPP Bo District executives on Monday.

The handover ceremony, described as a significant event in the party’s regional history, was attended by several key figures, including SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa, Bo City Mayor Kobba Musa, Bo District Council Chairman Victor Korseh Hindowa, Resident Minister South Chief John Abu, Chief Boyzy Lemon, Hon. Neneh Lebbie of Constituency 086, Deputy Mayor Hawa Campbell, and numerous constituency executives and party supporters from across Bo District.

In his welcome address, SLPP Bo District Chairman Buakai Bindi Hindowa commended the vision of past leaders, while District Secretary-General Mohamed Monya Sheriff Esq. introduced the dignitaries present at the ceremony.

Providing context to the project, Mohamed E.K. Alie revealed that the land for the regional office had been personally purchased by Dr. Kanja Sesay during the party’s years in opposition. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to Sesay for his selfless sacrifice and visionary leadership.

Bo City Mayor Kobba Musa hailed Dr. Sesay as “a true godfather of the region” and suggested that the regional office hall be named in his honor. Resident Minister South, Chief John Abu, also praised Sesay’s contributions and proposed that the new building be named “Victory Office” to reflect the party’s resilience and triumphs.

In his keynote address, SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa thanked the people of Bo District for their continued confidence in the party and President Julius Maada Bio. He recalled his own political journey under the mentorship of Dr. Sesay and Mohamed E.K. Alie, pledging a leadership characterized by inclusivity, transparency, and accountability.

“My leadership will be guided by discipline and the rule of law. Indiscipline will not be tolerated,” Songa affirmed. “By God’s grace, we will work with the Bo District executives to ensure the completion of this regional office before the 2028 elections. Once finished, it will be one of the most prominent political buildings in Sierra Leone.”

In his official handover statement, Dr. Kanja Sesay described the event as both memorable and historic. He shared that his family had agreed to donate the land for the office during the party’s most challenging years in opposition. Dr. Sesay also revealed that over Le600 million (old notes) had already been deposited into the construction account, with support from business partners and community stakeholders.

“This office belongs to the SLPP, not to Pa Kanja,” he emphasized, expressing gratitude to the women, youth, and support groups of Bo for their tireless dedication. He also highlighted that the office design includes spaces for representatives from the three other districts in the Southern Region to encourage inter-district dialogue and collaboration.

The ceremony concluded with a vibrant display of cultural performances and traditional dances, with dancers honoring Dr. Kanja Sesay as “the true and reliable godfather of the Southern Region.”
