A heartfelt farewell was held on Friday, August 15, 2025, for Mrs. Hawa Yannah Moseray, Senior State House Correspondent for the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), who passed away on August 2, 2025.

Family, friends, colleagues, and mourners gathered at Saint Paul’s Quasi Parish for a funeral mass, followed by her burial at Wilberforce Cemetery paying tribute to a woman whose voice, passion, and professionalism made a lasting impact on Sierra Leone’s media landscape.

Known for her unwavering dedication to journalism and public service, Mrs. Moseray was widely respected for her authoritative reporting style and distinctive voice, which became a familiar presence in SLBC’s coverage of State House affairs. Her work built a bridge between the presidency and the public, earning her the trust of many Sierra Leoneans.

During the funeral service, Reverend Father Ambrose Michael delivered a moving homily titled “Jesus is Our Hope,” drawn from Romans 5:5. He celebrated Mrs. Moseray’s life of purpose, both in her professional and spiritual commitments.

“Hawa was running the race to the finish, both in her work at SLBC and in her family life,” he said, referencing 2 Timothy 4:6–8, and honoring her enduring faith and discipline.

Heartfelt tributes from family and colleagues portrayed Mrs. Moseray as a passionate, principled, and deeply caring individual.

Her elder sister, Madam Bintu Tommy, recalled Hawa’s childhood fascination with journalism, fondly referring to her as the family’s “news bearer.”

“Sleep on and take your rest,” she said in a touching tribute, highlighting her sister’s role as the family’s source of joy.

Her elder son, Derick Lansana, described her as a firm but loving mother who instilled strong values and discipline in her children.

“Though we mourn, we do so with pride. The stories of her kindness and impact comfort us,” he shared, reflecting on the lasting legacy she leaves behind.

Fudia Kona Kowa, President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John, honored Mrs. Moseray’s steadfast loyalty since joining the group in 2002.

“Her memories stay, but her loyalty remains,” she said, offering a final farewell on behalf of the organization.

The final commendation was delivered by Reverend Father Francis Tommy, who reminded mourners of the Christian hope of resurrection and reunion.

“Let us console one another with the hope of seeing Hawa again,” he concluded.

Mrs. Hawa Yannah Moseray’s legacy as a trailblazing journalist, mentor, and devout Catholic will continue to inspire the SLBC family, the State House press corps, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her life was a testimony to resilience, faith, and service, and her absence will be deeply felt across Sierra Leone’s media and faith communities.
