In a significant move to boost operational efficiency and inter-agency collaboration, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, has donated 22 computers and accessories to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Immigration Department.

The donation ceremony was held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom, with the primary objective of improving data collection and enhancing service delivery across these key national security and governance institutions.

In his address, IGP Sellu recalled that the rollout of the West Africa Police Information System (WAPIS) began during his tenure as Director of Crime Services. He emphasized the importance of expanding the WAPIS initiative nationwide, citing its crucial role in gathering accurate intelligence on criminal activities within Sierra Leone and the wider West African region.

IGP Sellu expressed gratitude to the European Union for supporting the initiative by providing the computers and accessories. He noted that access to modern technology is essential for efficient crime management and inter-agency coordination.

“Crime can be controlled if we all come together and work collectively toward a common goal,” said Sellu. “Everyone’s weakness might be another’s strength, but through teamwork, we can overcome challenges and succeed.”

He underscored the need for robust data systems, particularly in criminal investigations, and called on the ACC to continue sharing valuable intelligence. He also urged Immigration officials to maintain accurate and verifiable records of passport applicants especially those applying on behalf of others to enhance national security screening and identification procedures.

“We are being supported, so it’s our duty to use these tools for their intended purposes,” the IGP added. “The police cannot fight crime alone. Teamwork is essential to success.”

IGP Sellu confirmed that the use of the donated equipment would be closely monitored to ensure accountability and proper usage. He reiterated that reducing crime in Sierra Leone requires the collective effort of security agencies, public institutions, and the citizenry.

Representatives from the recipient agencies expressed their appreciation for the donation. Madam Evelyn Kuyateh, Director of Intelligence and Investigation at the ACC; Mr. Ibrahim Samuel Dugba, Director of Drug Prevention, Education, and Training at the NDLEA; and Mr. Amadu Bah, Deputy Chief Immigration Officer, commended the IGP for the gesture. They pledged their continued collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police to enhance national security and public safety.

The event concluded with a group photograph to commemorate the symbolic handover, which included 10 computers and accessories to the ACC, 10 to the Immigration Department, and 2 to the NDLEA marking a significant step forward in strengthening Sierra Leone’s crime prevention infrastructure.
