In a major step forward for rural infrastructure, Minister of Agriculture Henry Musa Kpaka has announced the imminent commissioning of a new 121-meter-long bridge in Mattru by President Julius Maada Bio.

The new bridge replaces an aging drawbridge that has served the community for generations and is expected to significantly improve agricultural productivity and economic activity in the region.

Set to open soon, the bridge will provide easier access for farmers and traders, improving the transportation of goods and boosting local commerce. “This is what real transformation looks like,” Kpaka stated, highlighting the bridge’s potential to revitalize the agricultural sector and enhance livelihoods in the area.

This initiative is part of a broader national infrastructure development plan. Three additional bridges are scheduled for completion later this year in Sierra Leone’s Eastern and Northern regions. These projects aim to connect rural communities, reduce travel time and transportation costs, and drive economic growth.

The Minister emphasized the importance of infrastructure in overcoming the challenges faced by farmers in accessing markets and agricultural resources. “Improved connectivity will lead to increased agricultural productivity, enabling our farmers to thrive,” he noted.

This development is also aligned with ongoing efforts supported by the World Bank to strengthen rural economies and promote food security across Sierra Leone.

As the Mattru bridge nears completion, anticipation is building within the local community. Residents are eager to experience the benefits of this transformational project, which represents a significant step toward sustainable development and inclusive economic progress.
