The Forcians Bascketball team has lifted their first ever Afrimoney Championship Trophy at the Freetown Amusement park. Led by Alhaji Harun Sesay, who doubles as the tactician of the country’s basketball team, the Forcians displayed class to win the maiden Afrimoney National Basketball League, competed by fourteen clubs nationwide.
The Forcians achieved this milestone feat with a resounding victory against the Sierra Titans with three straight wins in a series of five finals, with an amassing basket of 220 to 205 points played on Wednesday, 4th June 2025, at Victoria Park.
Coach Alhaji Harun Sesay describes his triumph as “monumental”, adding: “Winning the first-ever Basketball Championship in the country is a good feeling. In sports, after a year of training, when you win, you realise your effort has not gone in vain,” he accentuated.
He hails the Sierra Leone Basketball Federation for not only providing the platform for the athletes to exhibit their potential but also inviting international referees to officiate some games during the playoffs.
However, he calls for improvement in the subsequent editions, stressing: “The league should have a calendar that will allow more games to play at the different venues and at the same time to further attract investment and followers,” he called.
The Federation will present trophies and certificates in an amusement fun-fair closing ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Victoria Park, including the champions of both the Division 2 and the female categories.
Additionally, the country’s basketball veterans will exhibit old drills, dunks, and finger rows with some live entertainment to end the grammy basketball season.
