In a bid to enhance and strengthen human right promotion, a team from the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, led by the Chairperson, Mrs. Patricia Narsu Ndanema on Wednesday, 22nd January 2025 held strategic engagement with the Irish Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Aidan Fitzpatrick Ambassador at his Spur Road office in Freetown.
In her opening remarks, the Chairperson, Commissioner Ndanema said “It is an opportunity for me on behalf of the Commission to wish you and your team the very best in 2025.”
She stated that it has been a normal routine for the Commission to pay courtesy call on their partners and sponsors to thank them for their relentless support to the Commission and to also get them informed on what the Commission does and intends to do going forward in the protection and promotion of human rights in the country.
According to her, the many successes the Commission has recorded wouldn’t have been possible without the unflinching support of the Irish Embassy.
“We deeply appreciate your partnership and support towards the work of the Commission,” she added.
The Executive Secretary, Joseph Kamara expressed deep appreciation to the Irish Ambassador and mentioned that since 2013, the Embassy and UNDP have been the traditional partners supporting the work of the Commission. He added that the Commission has over the years implemented series of activities and participated in a lot of M&E programmes with funds from Irish Aid and the UNDP.
Responding, Irish Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Aidan Fitzpatrick noted with admiration the good work the Commission has been doing over the years, especially the implementation of the mobile complaints hearing sessions in remote communities.
He urged the Commission to do more in the fight against human rights violations in the county to ensure a level playing field. He reiterated the Embassy’s commitment to continue supporting the work of the Commission.
