Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has offered ten scholarships to Sierra Leone Bike Riders Union in a bid to enhance their skills during his courtesy visit to the union. He has praised the contributions of motorcycle riders to Sierra Leone’s development during a recent visit to several riding parks in Freetown. Sierra Leone tourism.
Dr. Sengeh felt impressed by the dedication and professionalism of the bike. Emphasizing that they are not just a mode of transportation; they are vital to our economy, our society, and even our national security.
He engaged with riders and discussed their roles in society and the challenges they face. He presented ten scholarships to union members for skills development.
“The relationship between the riders and the police has significantly improved. Stating that this is a testament to the leadership of Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu and the vision of President Bio.”
The Chief Minister highlighted the significant economic impact of the motorcycle riding sector, employing over 2.1 million people.
He said they are the backbone of the country’s informal sector. Dr. Sengeh emphasized their work by supportting market women, as well contributes to government revenue, and drives economic growth.
Chief Minister recognized the role of riders in maintaining peace and national security, aligning with the government’s “Big Fivedevelopment agenda”. He said they are an integral part of our society. Dr. Sengeh alluded that their contributions to agriculture, education, and employment are invaluable.
Dr. Sengeh addressed the challenges faced by riders, including the need for insurance and welfare schemes, improved traffic infrastructure, and affordable motorcycle prices.
He assured that the government would remain committed to working with the riders to address their concerns and improve their livelihoods,” he assured.
Chief Minister stressed the importance of inclusivity in policy development; emphasizing President Bio’s vision for all Sierra Leoneans to contribute to the nation’s transformation. “Every Sierra Leonean has a role to play in building a better future for our country,” Dr. Sengeh concluded.
