“We will Ensure No One is left Behind in National Progress” President Bio Affirms

In a heartfelt address on January 1, 2025, President Julius Maada Bio has affirmed that no one is left behind in the nation’s progress. He hoped to enhance quality of life for every citizens across the country.

Speaking to the country, he emphasized the importance of reflection and recommitment to the ideals that unite the people of Sierra Leone.

The President’s message comes after a challenging year, but he highlighted the resilience of Sierra Leoneans from urban centers like Freetown and Makeni to rural areas such as Falaba and Bonthe District. “Together, we can overcome any challenge that confronts us as a nation,” he asserted, calling for collective action in 2025.

In his address, President Bio outlined the government’s commitment to transforming challenges into opportunities through the Medium-Term National Development Plan for 2024-2030. He emphasized the need for bold actions to create jobs, support local businesses, and attract investments to stimulate economic growth.

The President reiterated that enhancing the quality of life for every citizen is paramount, ensuring that no one is left behind in the nation’s progress.

A significant aspect of the message focused on the government’s economic strategies. President Bio committed to reducing inflation and maintaining regular salary payments, while also striving to keep food and fuel prices reasonable. He announced plans to ramp up agricultural productivity and enhance the contributions of the mining and manufacturing sectors to the economy.

President Bio also underscored energy as a critical priority for the year. He pledged to improve the energy mix to meet growing demands, actively seeking financing for renewable energy projects.

The US$480 million Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact was highlighted as a key initiative to enhance energy access and reliability across the nation.

Addressing the pressing issue of climate change, the President acknowledged its adverse impacts on agriculture, water, and infrastructure. He promised a decisive government response to mitigate these effects, including a review of Sierra Leone’s Nationally Determined Contributions and a comprehensive climate change strategic plan for 2025-2030.

Education was another focal point of the address. President Bio celebrated advancements in foundational learning and pledged to invest in quality education, equipping teachers and modernizing schools. He highlighted the importance of creating pathways for youth through education, skills training, and entrepreneurship.

Healthcare, particularly maternal and child health, was emphasized as a national priority. President Bio vowed to expand healthcare services and strengthen health systems to ensure that no mother fears childbirth and every child has access to essential health services.

In closing, the President called for unity among Sierra Leoneans, urging citizens to rise above tribal, regional, or political differences. He stressed the importance of good governance, transparency, and the fight against corruption as foundational elements for sustainable development.

The upcoming nationwide population and housing census was introduced as a crucial tool for informed decision-making and assessing the impact of government interventions.

President Bio expressed his gratitude for the partnership with citizens in this journey towards sustainable progress. He encouraged all Sierra Leoneans to embrace innovation and strive for excellence, believing that together, they can transform the nation.

As he extended New Year greetings, he wished all Sierra Leoneans happiness and prosperity, invoking a collective spirit to make 2025 a year of hope and success. “May God bless you, and may God bless the Republic of Sierra Leone,” he concluded.
