Francis Ben Kaifala,  Anti-Corruption Commissioner of Sierra Leone has highlighted the gains Sierra Leone made in the fight against corruption at an annual engagement held by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of Nigeria on Wednesday 18th December 2024.

The event, marking Kaifala’s one-year tenure, featured a keynote address from His Exellency President Julius Maada Bio. Commissioner Kaifela spoke on the theme, “Assets Recovery as an Effective Tool in the Fight Against Corruption.”

Hosted at the ICPC Auditorium on Plot 802, Constitution Avenue in Abuja,

the Anti Corruption Commissioner highlighted Sierra Leone’s significant strides in combating corruption.

He emphasized the importance of asset recovery as a vital strategy in the country’s anti-corruption efforts, showcasing the radical reforms and practical actions that have transformed governance in Sierra Leone.

“One thing is undisputed: Nigerians are staunchly following our progress in the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone. They are full of praise and admiration for our achievements,” he said.

The event not only focused on anti-corruption strategies but also aimed to strengthen regional collaboration in addressing corruption in West Africa.

By sharing successful tactics, Commissioner Kaifela encouraged Nigerian officials and stakeholders to consider similar approaches in their own fight against corruption.

The engagement underscored the critical need for effective governance and accountability, emphasizing that the fight against corruption is a collective responsibility.

With growing support from neighbouring nations, Nigeria’s pursuit of transparency and integrity may gain renewed momentum in the coming year.
