The new Regional Organizing Secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party(SLPP), Jobson S. Momoh has categorically stated that he has discovered that there is a disconnect between the people and the party. He promised to bridge the gap that is existing to ensure that those who are disgruntled or aggrieved with the party are brought back.
Speaking to this medium, Mr. Momoh said: “I am down to earth and very unassuming as I believe in the people of the south who are resilient set of people even though we are always faced with challenges but we will always overcome them.’’
He added: ‘’I believe in the ideas of the SLPP. I am an entrepreneur and development practitioner, who is passionate about the growth and development of the people. Most times people say when you invest in people you are wasting resources but my victory by going unopposed came as a result of people displaying their love and appreciation in investment in them,’’Mr. Momoh said.
According to him: “Those who supported me believe that the more they promote my leadership and ideas the more they benefit from it, and the people exhibited huge support for my candidacy. That was not done for money, in fact people supported my candidacy with their own resources without me knowing them.”
He added that this is a proof that he is among those the people in the south want to occupy the political space. He said the people are convinced if he is there in position of influence he will support their growth and development in the southern region.
Mr. Momoh explained that the regional organizing secretary is strategic position charged with the mandate to bring more people on board the party, mobilize resources, organize the organs of the party including Women’s leader, young generation leaders and other action group of the parties to make them more vibrant.
He further said that the organizing secretary in any political party strategizes to bring more votes for the party by explaining the ideas of the party for people to see the need to join the party as a better alternative to APC party.
He noted that the people should know that the organizing secretary is the most powerful position within the party structure that will help also to identify problems and find solution to them.
Mr. Momoh however said that: “I have discovered a disconnect between the grassroots and the party and my responsibility is to bridge that gap by ensuring that we bring people to the party. If the people are disconnected from the party their expectations will not be met.” He pointed out that if people are disconnected from the people they cannot communicate their grievances to the party structure, as they are grumbling that the party is not reaching out to the masses.’’
He noted that: “we need to bring the people back to their SLPP party and that is a clear function of the organizing secretary but there are people who think the role the organizing secretary is just to park the benches for meeting and it goes beyond that, as the organizing secretary is the hub of the party activities.’’
Mr. Momoh said that ‘’My office will ensure that we go to every nook and cranny of the southern region and the country as a whole to ensure that more people including interest groups from all works of life join the party and play meaningful role towards the development of the party and the country as a whole.
‘’For the next three months, I will basically concentrate on bringing onboard back those who are aggrieved with the party and my office will ensure that we build the image of the party to the admiration of all to ensure victory of the party in elections,’’ he said.
