In a passionate address during the debate on President Julius Maada Bio’s speech in Parliament, Hon. Abdul Karim Bangura, the Member of Parliament representing Karene District, lauded the president for his remarkable strides in driving the socioeconomic transformation of Sierra Leone, particularly in Karene District.
He expressed his appreciation to His Excellency President Bio for his visionary leadership. Adding that President Bio is indeed a saviour for the development of our nation.”
Highlighting the historical context of Karene District, Hon. Bangura noted that it was created from thirteen of the most underprivileged chiefdoms in Sierra Leone. Despite its challenging beginnings, the district is now witnessing tangible development under President Bio’s administration.
“Mr. Speaker, Honorable Members, before 2018, the only visible government presence in Karene District was a police station and barracks built by the late President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah. These structures, unfortunately, were destroyed during the August 10th protests but have since been rebuilt under President Bio’s leadership. Today, we can proudly point to signs of progress across various sectors in our district,” he stated.
On energy, the MP expressed optimism, stating that the district eagerly awaits the official commissioning of electricity by President Bio.
“Energy is the lifeline of development, and under this administration, we are witnessing significant strides. The lights will soon shine in Karene,” he affirmed.
Regarding infrastructure, Hon. Bangura highlighted the president’s commitment to addressing the district’s critical transportation needs. “Out of five ferry crossing points in Karene, one is already under construction at Tomparay, and two more—at Batkanu and Kaba—have been proposed in the president’s development blueprint,” he explained.
In education, the MP hailed the administration’s investments, emphasizing that out of 341 approved schools in the district, 153 were approved during President Bio’s tenure. Additionally, 135 primary schools now benefit from the school feeding program, and over 465 teachers have been recruited.
“Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and this administration is ensuring that Karene’s children are given opportunities that were previously out of reach,” he added.
In a poetic tribute to President Bio’s leadership, Hon. Bangura recounted the president’s selfless service to the nation:
“As a young man, he chose the defense of his country over his university studies.
As a military man, he prioritized peace over war, bringing Foday Sankoh to the peace table.
As a military leader, he chose democracy over military rule, handing over power to an elected president.
As a politician, he upholds the rule of law and steers the country with wisdom.”
He concluded with a call for unity, urging all sons and daughters of Karene—whether by birth or legislative association—to rally behind President Bio’s agenda.
“Mr. Speaker, Honorable Members, the smile on our faces is not a reflection of perfect conditions but of hope and trust in this president. Dirty water will not stop the plate from growing, and no amount of negativity will derail His Excellency’s mission to develop Sierra Leone,” he concluded.
Hon. Abdul Karim Bangura’s heartfelt address underscores the transformative impact of President Bio’s policies in Karene District and beyond, highlighting a collective vision of progress, resilience, and hope for Sierra Leone.
