Tourism Minister opens capacity Building Workshop for Women in the Tourism and Cultural Sectors Organized by DOSL

The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt has opened a two-day capacity building workshop for women in the Tourism and Cultural sectors organized by Daughters of Sierra Leone (DOSL) on the 17th may 2021

On theme: “Monetizing Knowledge through Online” at New Life Ministries International Complex Hall, Ross Road in Freetown.

Daughters of Sierra Leone, (DOSL) are a forum to unite women from Sierra Leone and across Africa. It is an organization founded by Rita Felleh Arah, a Sierra Leonean based in the United States of America with an agenda to promote the development of Sierra Leone.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DOSL Sierra Leone, Rita Fellah Arah told the gathering that she is a Sierra Leonean and also a US citizen but she chooses to give back to Sierra Leone. She called on all to portray the good image of Sierra Leone in order to defeat the negative image of Sierra Leone.

She appreciated her husband and her team for the support and also thanked participants for gracing the workshop. She called on the participants to take the workshop seriously and also use the opportunity to become self-reliant.

In her keynote address, the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt congratulated DOSL in Sierra Leone for undertaking the laudable project in Sierra Leone, describing it as an excellent hallmark of what a true patriotic Sierra Leonean is. She stated that DOSL are not in Sierra Leone to use social media for any selfish or negative reason but to give back and contribute to the development of Sierra Leone using online platforms.

She commended the CEO for choosing the creative and cultural industry within the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, noting that 50% of the youth population can survive through the creative and performing arts if the right skills are harnessed and resources mobilized. She disclosed that the Tourism Ministry has now established a full fledge program on Gender Women and Tourism to provide creative sector skills training to women in many parts of Sierra Leone especially women in tourism attraction sites.
