National Youth Commission in Collaboration with Armed Forces Technical Education College (AFTEC) has trained 80 young girls in construction, civil engineering and other technical course at the campus in Wilberforce, Freetown.

At the graduation ceremony on Tuesday 11th June 2024, of 80 women in different skills at the Armed Forces Technical Education College (AFTEC), Wilberforce, Freetown which was witness by staff of Youth Commission, TVET and family members.

Director of Studies AFTEC Major General Christian Marah said, the college has produced women with different skills especially in civil engineering, construction, electrical installation and they are hoping to see more women coming to learn different courses for their betterment in the near future and for society.

He continue that the college has trained and qualify lecturers for the different courses, and the learning environment is conducive and safe for all students.

In his statement Commissioner National Youth Commission Ahmed Atata Mansaray Esq. said the students that are enrolling in the college (AFTEC) are not paying for form neither tuition fees.

He disclosed that the initiative was done through Youth Commission supported by the government and United Nation Development Program (UNDP) and they are paying for the students enrolling into the college without them paying anything.

The only thing is for them to come for lecture and learn the different courses they choose.

He further that getting the form to enrol into the college is two thousand Leones (Le2000) and that is been paid by the government and UNDP.

Commissioner Mansaray said, after these 80 women that has graduated, the next batch coming he is now advocating for them after graduation they should receive something at the end of the month to start something or to improve their lives.

He assured staff of the college that the Commission will support the college to see that the young ladies get different skills as that is the aim of the Commission through the government of President Bio.

He end up saying the Commission has taken center stage in gender parity.
