Sahr Moi Bundu, a former Operational Support Division (OSD) officer attached to the Tankoro Police Divisional Headquarters in Koidu City, has been sentenced to sixty months in prison for larceny. The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Joseph Toby at the Sefadu Magistrate Court.
Bundu was found guilty of stealing three leaves of used hardboard or celotex and five ceiling fans, valued at a total of 2,450 Leones, from the Annex building at the Koidu Government Hospital on March 18, 2024. The property belonged to Foday Musa Turay.
In his ruling, Magistrate Toby emphasized that the prosecution had proven their case beyond a reasonable doubt. He cited several legal sections, underscoring that police officers, particularly those in the OSD, have a constitutional duty to protect civilians and their property. Bundu’s actions, he stated, were a severe breach of this duty.
The conviction followed a special tribunal held by the Tankoro Police Divisional Headquarters, which dismissed Bundu from the force and transferred the case to the magistrate court for criminal proceedings.
Bundu will serve his sentence at the Sefadu Correctional Centre in Kono District. This case highlights the judiciary’s stance on maintaining the integrity and trust in law enforcement by holding officers accountable for criminal actions.
