The Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA) has sealed the Conex gas station located in Grafton, imposing a fine of fifty thousand New Leones for allegedly selling fuel above the government-recommended price. This decisive action follows a viral video on social media highlighting the alleged price violation.
Jayah Muana, Director of Licences and Inspections at PRA, confirmed that Conex Grafton’s actions constituted a breach of the agency’s regulations. As a result, the station’s license has been revoked, and the financial penalty imposed. “When you breach our regulations, we will take effective action against you,” said Director Muana, underscoring the agency’s commitment to enforcing compliance.
The sealing of Conex Grafton signifies a halt in its operations until the station meets the conditions set forth by the PRA. Director Muana emphasized that the annual payment for a license does not exempt any station from adhering to regulatory standards. Violations could lead to severe consequences, including the revocation of the license and the necessity of a fresh application for reinstatement, which may result in operational disconfirmation.
The PRA’s enforcement sends a strong warning to all gas stations across the country, especially amidst a situation where there is a significant stock of gas products ready for distribution. Selling fuel above the government-mandated pump price is a clear violation of PRA regulations, and as of today, Conex Grafton must cease operations, Director Muana stated.
Efforts to obtain a response from Conex Grafton were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
The PRA’s action is intended to maintain fair pricing and ensure that gas stations comply with regulatory standards, thereby protecting consumers from unjust price hikes.
