In a significant development, Abebe Amero Silassie, Director of the African Departments at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has pledged additional support to Sierra Leone to bolster the nation’s financial stability and growth prospects. This commitment comes amidst challenging economic conditions exacerbated by the global pandemic and underlying systemic issues.
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance, Fantamadi Bangura, welcomed the IMF’s assurance, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in overcoming economic hurdles and fostering sustainable development. The pledged support is anticipated to provide crucial financial resources, technical expertise, and policy guidance to address urgent economic challenges and promote inclusive growth.
Silassie commended Minister Bangura for his efforts in consolidating public finances, which have garnered confidence from development partners to sustain their support for Sierra Leone. The Director advised maintaining this approach, emphasizing its role in facilitating the initiation of a successor program with the IMF.
