The inferno, which began in the morning and persisted till afternoon, unleashed untold destruction as firefighters and community members waged a relentless battle to quench the flames.
The tragedy struck on a Sunday, a day when most businesses across the nation remain closed, exacerbating the impact on traders. Reports indicate that some traders were alerted to the disaster by residents or relatives, while others rushed to the scene upon hearing the distressing news. The fire inflicted significant losses estimated to be in the millions of leones, leaving hundreds of traders reeling from the devastation.
Amidst the chaos, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) intervened to manage the swelling crowd of traders and onlookers, amid reports of alleged theft by opportunistic individuals posing as helpers.
