Residents of Kono District have lauded Magistrate Joseph Toby, newly transferred to the Sefadu Magistrate Court, for his resolute and proactive stance in addressing drug-related issues plaguing the region. Toby’s recent sentencing of individuals found guilty of unlawful possession of harmful substances, notably Kush, under Section 8(1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Control Act of 2008, has garnered significant commendation from the community.
In a recent development, Magistrate Toby sentenced Tamba Steven Momoh and Ishmael Kanu to forty-nine- and thirty-months imprisonment, respectively, for their involvement in unlawful possession of Kush. This sentencing marks a departure from leniency towards drug offenders and signifies a robust approach to tackling the drug epidemic in Kono District.

Residents like Kadiatu Kamara, from Kania Community in Koidu City, have expressed gratitude towards Magistrate Toby for his crackdown on individuals profiteering from the sale of Kush, often at the expense of the youth’s welfare. They have urged the magistrate to maintain his steadfast approach until victory is achieved in the fight against Kush and other harmful drugs, not only in Kono District but across the entire country.
