Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, delivered a keynote address at the ongoing World Governments Summit in Dubai, highlighting President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s ‘Big Five’ Agenda. Dr. Sengeh emphasized Sierra Leone’s significant investments in education, which have resulted in increased school enrollment, improved learning outcomes, and opportunities for all, including girls and children with disabilities. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to further enhancing the educational system as a sustainable foundation for growth and development.
As part of President Bio’s Human Capital Development drive, Dr. Sengeh mentioned the launch of the ‘Feed Salone’ initiative aimed at boosting local food production, expanding food value chains, creating job opportunities for women and youth, particularly in rural areas, and fostering overall economic growth.
Dr. Sengeh stressed the importance of radical inclusion to ensure that everyone can contribute to national development, especially considering that 70% of Sierra Leone’s population is youthful. He highlighted the need for equipping people with the right skills for employment, which necessitates reforms in the public sector to ensure equitable distribution of opportunities. Innovation and infrastructure were also highlighted as crucial components for sustainable development.
Sierra Leone has outlined its ambitions through a seven-year Medium National Development Plan aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. President Bio’s leadership was commended, particularly for appointing women and young people to critical portfolios, setting a standard for inclusive governance.
In addition to his address, Dr. Sengeh engaged in discussions with H.E. Mohamed Bin Taliah, Chief of the UAE Government Services, exploring collaborative approaches to enhance public service delivery in both countries.
