28-year-old Maya Sheik Kaikai, a geologist, made his first appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kehkura of Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown on two count charges, namely Conspiracy contrary to law and Murder contrary to section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, as repealed and replaced by section 1 (a) of the Abolition of Death Penalty Act 2022, Act 6 of 2022.
According to the particulars of the offence, on Saturday, August 26th, 2023, at Fallscape Garden, Goderich, Freetown, the accused conspired with others unknown to commit a felony, namely Murder. On count two, on the same date and place, the accused murdered Fatmata Kamara Koroma.
Upon the reading and explanation of the charges to the accused, no plea was taken.
The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim S. Mansaray, informed the Bench that his witness was absent and sought a short adjournment date. The accused person was unrepresented by legal counsel.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Kehkura denied bail and remanded the accused person to the male correctional center in Freetown, with the matter adjourned to the 16th of February, 2024.
