Kallie Bangura’s exceptional performance led Sierra Leone to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Syria in today’s second round at the Potts Park complex. Sierra Leone found themselves in a precarious position after Syria leveled the score at 2-2 just after halftime, but Bangura’s composed finish ten minutes from the end secured the win for his team.
Sierra Leone is now set to face Lebanon in the quarter-finals of the competition, scheduled for Sunday at the Potts Park complex in Yagoona. However, head coach Yusuf Kamara has cautioned his team against complacency despite securing a spot in the quarter-finals. Addressing his players after the match, Kamara emphasized the dangers of becoming satisfied with their performance, stating, “Satisfaction can lead to laziness.”
He stressed the importance of maintaining focus and readiness for the upcoming fixture against Lebanon, acknowledging that their performance against Syria fell below expectations. Kamara emphasized the team’s desire to win every game and the competition overall, underscoring the need for improvement and determination heading into the next match.
