The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) has issued out a public notice on 6th February 2024, highlighting the benefits and the importance of the national identification card, and the mandate to enforce the law on any citizens who refuses to take the card. NCRA highlighted the benefits and use of which this card would be serving for. They said it includes, ‘’ Transaction with Financial Institution [Banks, Forex Bureau, Insurance], recruitment into Public and Private Institution for consistency in personal information and verification, vehicle Registration and Licensing, NASSIT Enrolment, Land and Property Registration, Enrolment into Educational Institution Including Public Exams, Sim Card Registration, Vital Events Registration, Immigration Services, Residence/ Work Permits and Business Registration and Incorporation. They advised the general public to obtain any of the identification cards as the maybe applicable from any of the NCRA offices or other centers designated for issuance of ID cards across the country by Friday, 31 March, 2024.They also explained that the National and Non-National ID Cards are mandatory while the ECOWAS ID Cards are optional. They further informed the public that the National Civil Registration Authority and the security sector would jointly collaborate to enforce compliance with the cabinet directive and parliament ratification effective 1st April, 2024. NCRA concluded that they want all residents [citizens and foreigners] to be reliably identified and have consistency in their personal information irrespective of the use or purpose.
