Minister Teima Calls For Unity As NOC-SLE Charts The Future Of Sports

The National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone successfully conducted its Annual General Assembly (AGM) on January 13, 2024, at the Country Lodge Hotel in Hill Station, Freetown. Delegates representing various sporting disciplines from both the Commonwealth and Olympic spheres gathered for a unified Ordinary Congress, fostering collaboration and discussions about the future of sports in the nation.

Minister of Sports Augusta James Teima, in her opening declaration, addressed the assembled members of the “Sporting family,” emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in reshaping the narrative surrounding Sierra Leone’s sporting ecosystem. She commended the National Olympic Committee (NOC) for its developmental strides and highlighted their positive impact on sports in the country.

During his statement, President of both the NOC-SLE and the Commonwealth Games Association, Prince Sualley, spoke to the Congress. He celebrated the selfless service of predecessors Henry G Moore and Dr. Patrick Coker, acknowledging their contributions to laying the foundation for the ongoing progress of the NOC and sports in general.

Prince Sualley revealed that 67 percent of NOC activities in Sierra Leone received accolades from the International Olympic Committee for their transformative efforts in sports. He emphasized the ongoing construction of the road to success and the need for collective efforts to achieve more goals.

Sualley stressed the importance of all sporting disciplines under the Olympic Committee working together to advance sports in Sierra Leone. He encouraged unity among the various disciplines, expressing hope that some had secured qualifications for the upcoming games in France. The President wished all sporting disciplines the best in their endeavors.

The Ordinary Congress provided a vital platform for open dialogue and collaboration among the diverse sporting bodies in Sierra Leone. Minister Teima’s call for unity, coupled with the acknowledgment of past leaders by President Sualley, set a positive tone for the event. With a renewed focus on joint efforts and building upon existing developmental initiatives, the Congress holds promise for a brighter future for sports in Sierra Leone.

In the financial report, NOC-SLE Treasurer Unisa Deen Kargbo highlighted the swift steps taken to empower athletes through training camps. He also mentioned the relocation of the NOC-SLE Headquarters from Howe Street to Walpole Street as a strategic move to rebrand the organization’s status.
