On Thursday, December 14, 2023, 25-year-old Fatmata Marrah, an unemployed woman, appeared before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Court No. 1 on charges of allegedly stealing over four hundred thousand new Leones from Rokel Commercial Bank Sim Korpor.
Marrah, making her first court appearance, faced two counts of Conspiracy to defraud, contrary to law, and larceny, as per Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of the first count, the accused, between September 2, 2023, and Augst 10, 2023, in Freetown, purportedly intended to defraud Rokel Commercial Bank Sim Korpor by withdrawing NLE 419,000 from account number 1807618185701 designated for daily Sim Korpor financial transactions.
Furthermore, it was alleged that on May 12, 2023, in Freetown, Marrah stole a total of NLE 225,900 from Rokel Commercial Bank Sim Korpor’s account meant for daily Sim Korpor financial transactions.
During the reading of charges, no plea was entered. Magistrate Ngegba granted her bail in the sum of 400 thousand new Leones, requiring two sureties in a similar amount. One of the sureties must provide title deeds to be lodged with the court, and the bail is subject to approval by the Master and Registrar.
The case was adjourned to January 5, 2024.
