As part of the organisation’s annual philanthropist work, the Friends of Transit Organisation based in Freetown has on Tuesday 12th December 2023 donated highly needed items to the Kingharman Road Maternal and Child Health Hospital on behalf of the patients.
Amongst the items donated to the hospital were provisions, bundles of packet water, bundles of pampas, cleaning materials which included a number of hand brush, soap, other high quality detergent solutions, and many others.
In his statement at the presentation of the items, the Vice Chairman of Friends of Transit Organization Tamba Milton Karmanor expressed that, giving back to the communities, especially to the less privilege and sick people that mostly needed help, was part of the aims of the organisation. He acknowledged that the government had been trying its best but could do everything, so as an organisation they thought of ways they could come in and help in ways they could.
“Apparently, what come about this is that, we usually have an annual walk we called ‘Come Walk with Us’. At the end of the walk, we usually gather some resources which we always decide, not to use all by ourselves but to find somewhere we can extend our helping hands. And this year, we decided to support the Kingharman Road Hospital with these items so that the hospital as well can help support and take care of some ‘Kombras’ that are in dare need,” V. Chairman Karmanor revealed.
V.C Karmanor intimated that the Friends of Transit Organisation comprised of more than 60 members with people from all works of life. He revealed that the organisation is a non-governmental based in Freetown, having its office at 69 Robert Street. He recalled that the organisation holds its usually annual walk every April and called on everyone for a continuous support, as he assured of the organization’s relentless support to people in dire need.
Appreciating Friends of Transit Organisation for the good gesture on behalf of the hospital management and patients, the Medical Superintendent of the Kingharman Road Hospital Amadu Bah appreciated the organisation for considering their hospital amongst the many hospitals in he country. Superintendent Bah confidently assured the organisation that the items donated would definitely reach to the right beneficiaries. “I will assure to keep you posted with picture evidence on how the distribution would be carried out. So be rest assured that the items would get to the right people,” Bah further assured.
As he disclosed that the hospital was predominantly in need, the Superintendent of the Hospital expressed that they would be looking forward to the organisation’s continuous support and collaboration. He said as they mostly deal with people within the category of free health care, such as pregnant women and under five, they constantly face so many challenges. Bah also acknowledged that the ministry had been doing its very best but however they could not do everything. He again commended the organisation for the support and called on other philanthropists organisatiosns to emulate such venture. He assured the organisation for a reciprocal support whenever they organize their ‘Come Walk with Us event’ as he told them to feel free in reaching out to the hospital.
Joicy Judge, Senior Nursing Officer Nurse Educator also commended the organisation for the support and expressed hope on their coming back. She disclosed that as the present situation was unfavorable, some of the parents could not even afford to buy pampas. She encouraged those supporting the growth of the organisation to see what they were doing and to continue to support them so that they also could extend the support to the hospital.
