Amido Karim is a name that is not unfamiliar to Egyptian football fans, who know him well after he starred greatly in the Egyptian Premier League in the 1990s.

Amido Karim is one of the most prominent foreign players who shone in the Egyptian Premier League during the mid-nineties of the last century, when he wore the shirt of the Republic of Shebin team, which was a strong competitor to the top clubs in that period.

Amido Karim was one of the stars of the Sierra Leone national team, which participated in the 1994 and 1996 African Cup of Nations finals. He came to Egypt, on the advice of Mustafa Abdel-Ghali, the technical director of Sierra Leone at the time, to join – along with his colleague Cherino Mansari – in the ranks of the Canal team, in An unsuccessful attempt, Mustafa Abdel Ghaly played a role in Amido’s transfer to the Shebin Republic Club, whose training was supervised at the time by Anwar Salama, and he signed his contracts to join the club at the beginning of the 1994-1995 season.

Amido Karim spent three seasons with the Shebin Republic, during which he appeared at great levels and scored many distinguished goals, including goals against the Egyptian football poles Al-Ahly and Zamalek.

The Sierra Leone star left the Republic of Shebin at the end of the 1996-1997 season after the team was relegated to the lowest division, after which he joined Ghazl Al Suez Club.

Amidu Karim, recently took over as head coach of Sierra Leone’s senior national football team, having previously served as assistant coach.

The Sierra Leone national team is currently preparing to participate in the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, after being drawn in Group A alongside Egypt, Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Ethiopia, and Djibouti.

The Sierra Leone national team will begin its qualifying campaign by facing its Ethiopian host in the Moroccan city of El Jadida, in the first round match, before welcoming the Egypt national team in the Liberian capital, Monrovia, in the second round match.

Al-Dustour contacted Amidu Karim, who talked about his new mission as head of the technical leadership of the Sierra Leone national team and his vision for the group that his country won in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Sierra Leonean national team’s coach spoke about the upcoming confrontation that will bring his team together against the Egyptian national team in the World Cup qualifiers. He also spoke about his memories in the Egyptian League when he was a player in the ranks of the Shebin Republic team, and the most prominent players he played alongside in the team representing Menoufia Governorate.
